What to Expect During Your Heli Bike Day

Please note that we operate custom trips that are dependent upon weather, rider/group skillset and overall budgets.

The best time of year for Helicopter Biking in Alaska is July, too early into June and there is still too much snow on the ground, too late into August starts the rainy season. We have single and multi day options available as well as custom built film and production packages.

This is the video that we helped out with guiding and scouting location and can give you a good idea of the type of riding that is available. Please note these are professional riders and the terrain we access is dependent upon overall group skill levels.

For a day of freeride heli biking the general flow is that you will start with a safety briefing at our base area, organize riders of like ability, define your group objectives for the day, and then you’ll depart in the helicopter to spend the day in the field with your guide and fellow riders, using group dynamics to choose terrain wisely your guide will take you to ride gravity lines in the remote Alaskan backcountry.

1 – group of 4 riders requires a Lead and Tail guide utilizing 1 helicopter. This is a known as a private ship adventure. The most expensive way but you will get the most runs as we do not have to share the helicopter with another group.

2 – groups of 4 riders will have a Lead Guide with each group, with a potential option to add a 5th person in the jump seat. This is the standard adventure with 2 groups operating out of 1 helicopter, each group has a lead guide and there is no need for a tail guide.

We depart from our Glacier View Base Area and fly into the Talkeetna or Chugach Mountains, the views from the flight alone are absolutely spectacular, then landing with your bikes on a remote mountain is next level. The goal is to get each group around 5-7 runs, give or take, total number of runs is dependent on group ability and weather conditions.

The freeride runs are typically 1,000- 3,000 vertical feet. The terrain we move into is solely based on group ability, weather and your Lead Guide.

Heli biking is weather dependent so we’re always assessing this factor for safety purposes. We highly recommend that you purchase trip insurance as we cannot offer refunds due to weather or other factors beyond our control.

There may be one or two additional groups in the field with you. This means that during the day while groups are shuttling in via helicopter flight, you may have the opportunity to spend some time in the remote Alaskan Wilderness while you await your helicopter lift home.

About our Base of Operations: Located along the National Scenic Byway of the Glenn Highway, this stretch of roadway runs directly between the Chugach Mountains and Talkeetna Mountain Range. This provides a rugged up close look into the raw, natural forces that shaped the Alaskan Landscape. Our headquarters are situated at the choke point where the Talkeetna Mountains meet the Chugach at the Matanuska Glacier. The glacier functions as a weather hole that naturally propels warm valley air upward. Due to this phenomenon, visitors will often experience sunnier skies and a warmer environment compared to the rest of the Matanuska Valley, making this a premier destination for less weather delays.
